Do Justice.’: Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam Gets Emotional, Appeals PM Modi To Talk To Muslims5gThe Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari got emotional while Friday prayers over the persistent communal tensions and made a special appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk to the Muslims of the country.”We are standing in a situation worse than the one we were in 1947. No one knows which way the country will go in the future,” teary-eyed Bukhari said while holding the prayers at the historic mosque. He appealed the Prime Minister to take immediate cognisance of the situation and said that the latter should call three Hindus and three Muslims and hold talks. He said, “You (PM Modi) should do justice to the chair you are sitting on. Win the hearts of Muslims. Stop the miscreants who are trying to create tensions and affecting the atmosphere of the country.”He further appealed the Muslim youths to be patient.Bukhari’s appeal came after four people were killed and several were injured in the violent clashes on November 24 during a court-ordered survey of the Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid in the Kot Garvi area of Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal. The situation has been tense in Sambhal since the survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid was conducted on November 19 following orders from a court that came on a petition that claimed that there was a Harihar temple at the site earlier.Meanwhile, several petitions have been filed in the courts across the country regarding the survey of mosques.Bukhari said, “ASI has told us that we have no intention of surveying Delhi Jama Masjid, but the government should seriously think about the survey being done in Sambhal-Ajmer and other places. All these things are not good for the country. I only say that moments committed mistakes, centuries got punished… how long will the country run like this. How long will Hindu Muslim, temple mosque continue.”Recently, a plea was filed at Rajasthan court which claims that the Ajmer Sharif Dargah was built over a Shiva temple. The petition has been admitted by a court in Ajmer, which issued notices to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the Ajmer Dargah Committee and the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs on the matter.(With inputs from News18 Hindi)
